The telegraph is the last authentic magazine of the left GDR opposition, founded in 1986 as an environmental newspaper in East Berlin. In the fall of 1989, it was renamed as the Telegraph.

In the GDR, it ranked as one of the most important opposition magazines.

Since the beginning of the 90s, the Telegraph reported on new forms of resistance under new circumstances, on the citizen movements, the new emancipation movements and the transfer and modification of the rule in the territory of the GDR.

“Jeremiads, which should be raised in the rank of time diagnoses with Marxist trash phrases, stand next to hate-tirades of veterans of German terrorist groups. They are all united in the conviction that it was not those killed by the wall, not the spying, not the terrible mismanagement of the GDR, but their betrayal of the idea of socialism…” (New Zürcher Zeitun g, 26. October 1999)
