PowerSchift e.V. was founded in 2010 and since then has been making education, public and advocacy work as well as policy-oriented research on development, raw materials, energy and economic policy topics. The association’s goal is the socio-ecological transformation of energy and the global economy in the sense of global environmental justice and solidarity. Previous activities include the large trade and development cooperation conference ‘Never again World Champions’ with more than 25 cooperation partners (EED, Misereor, FIAN, farmer’s and trade union organizations etc.); multiannual UBA/BMU projects on “Climate Change and Trade Policy” as well as “Commodities and Trade”; research and advocacy projects on international investment policy (currently: investor-state arbitration suit Vattenfalls against Germany’s nuclear phase-out) as well as bilateral and multilateral trade agreements.
PowerSchift works with the topic of commodity policy from different angles (green economy, electromobility, alternatives, conflict minerals, commodity requirements industry 4.0 and so on). AK Commodity Policy resides at PowerSchift in order to strengthen to cooperation of the non-governmental organizations, which work critically in Germany on the topic of raw materials.
PowerShift is also involved in energy policy in several projects on energy supply in Berlin, the demand for raw materials for electromobility and the social-ecological transformation of Berlin’s energy policy. Via “New Energy for Berlin – Netze in Bürgerhand!” were able to forge the foundation of the Berlin Energy tables with attac Berlin and the petition for a climate protection referendum.
The association is active in the networking of commodity policy organizations in Germany as well as members in Berlin’s developmental policy Counsel (BER), in the European Seattle to Brussels Network and in coordination with the AG Trade of the German NRO-Forum Environment and Development as well as in the Network Just World Trade.
