We are in favour of supplementing representative democracy with direct democracy amendments and decision-making. We want to lower high barriers (ex. exclusion of topics, participation rates), more influence for citizens in voting and more transparency in political decisions.
Therefore, we organize campaigns and action for direct democracy and civic participation, advise initiators of civic referendums, draft laws on direct democracy and voting rights, provide experts for hearings in parliaments and write scientific studies and argumentation papers.
More than 30 employees work in Bremen, Hamburg, Cologne, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Brussels, Kreßberg, Erfurt and Berlin at the Federal Association and the 12 regional associations of More Democracy. We are financed exclusively through member contributions, donations and endowments. The Berlin-Brandenburg office sits in the House of Democracy and Human Rights. From here, the federal and state-wide press work is coordinated, and four times throughout the year the association’s magazine “md Magazin” is published. Four full-time employees as well as more interns are constantly improving the opportunities for more participation from Berliners and Brandenburgers. The recent success is the introduction of the possibility to carry out citizens’ requests at the local level. Interested parties and initiators offer More Democracy e.V. a comprehensive range of advice and services.
