Partisan

Young Democrats have been around since 1919 with a varied history. In 1982, Young Democrats was a youth organization of the FDP, but from 198 onwards they increasingly distance themselves from the inclusion of anti-authoritarian and anti-capitalistic ideas in the theory of the association. The split after the collapse of the social-liberal coalition came after a long-lasting process, when the FDP Kohl was elected Chancellor.

For radical Democracy

Young Democrats/Young Left see to the democratization of all social relationships, in the overcoming of authoritarian and hierarchical structures, and to the prerequisite for a self-determined organization of all living conditions of each individual. Because critical areas are deprived of democratic control (such as in business) or authoritarian (such as at school), we criticize the undemocratic nature of this society and advocate its transformation.

Consequent extra-parliamentary

Young Democrats/Young Left see to – contrary to the prevailing ideology – no possibility of brining about far-reaching democratic changes through parliaments and parties alone. Parliaments are, in our opinion, democratic achievements that must be defended against the anti-democratic tendencies of governments and bureaucracies, but their influence is limited. For us, parties are of great importance for small reforms. They do not deserve trust.

For Emancipation

Young Democrats/Young Left are committed to the emancipation of individuals and for social circumstances, which enables comprehensive self-determination. The creation of an emancipatory society is intrinsically tied to the liberation of the individual from domination and oppression.
