As a non-governmental organization, the League’s mission is to create critical publicity and pressure on governments and policymakers. It organizes or participates in demonstrations, vigils and signature campaigns, hosted readings, seminars and podium discussions, published leaflets and books. In doing so, it opposes the return of constitutional achievements in criminal and police law, calls for the restoration of the unrestricted fundamental right to asylum and the adoption of an anti-discrimination law. It sees the fight against right-wing extremism not solely as a task for the police and the judiciary, but as a societal one. The League explores the importance of NGOs (non-governmental organizations) in the context of globalization by seeking new ways to enforce human rights and regularly analysing the human rights situation in other countries.
The international League for Human Rights is financed through member contributions and donations. Here are the following committees and working groups:
Anti-fascist Committee: Examination of German History, Defence of Racist and Neo-Nazi Tendencies, Participation in the Peace Movement, Working Group for the Rights of the Handicapped
One World Committee: monitoring of human rights violations, advocacy for the rights of migrants and refugees, working groups on individual countries, participation in the “Aktionsbündis Abschiebehaft”
Iran Committee: monitoring human rights violations in Iran and Iranian opposition in exile.
Legal Affairs Committee: monitoring developments in legal policy, activities for a reform of citizenship law and for the introduction of an anti-discrimination law, participation in the debate on economic globalization and human rights.
Sinti and Roma Committee: commitment to the realisation of the human and civil rights of Sinti and Roma in Germany.
