Since 1989 we have worked on the building of an anarchist library. In march, 1994, the Library could be opened in the Kreuzberg El Locco Café under the name Barbata. In August, 1996, the library was renamed as Bibliothek der Freien, a name in which was to reflect on the Berlin Free in Vormärz.

The aim of the Bibliothek der Freien is to make publications on the theory and practice of international anarchism accessible to the interested public. Contrary to the prejudice that the idea of lack of power is an unfounded spinning-up of violence, we try to draw attention to anarchism as another concept of socialism, whose integral components include a liberal philosophy of life and the attempt of an anti-authoritarian organizational theory
